Understanding TOEFL

In the Reading section, test takers are presented with 3-4 academic passages, followed by a series of questions (approximately 30-40) designed to assess comprehension and analysis skills. You'll encounter different types of questions that gauge your ability to understand key ideas, details, inferences, and the structure of the text.
This section not only tests your reading skills but also how well you can interpret and analyze academic material, similar to what you might encounter in a university setting.

The Listening section exposes you to lectures and conversations that mimic the authentic language used in academic settings and everyday campus life. You'll listen to 2-3 lectures and 2-3 conversations, followed by questions that test your ability to understand the main ideas, key details, speaker attitudes, and the purpose of the spoken content.
This section assesses how well you can follow and interpret spoken English in various contexts.

In the Speaking section, you are assessed on your ability to communicate effectively in English. You'll complete four tasks: one personal opinion task and three integrated tasks that require you to respond to material you have read and listened to.
Evaluators look for clear, coherent speech; the ability to summarize information and express opinions; and the use of appropriate grammar and vocabulary.

The Writing section consists of two tasks: an integrated task, where you'll read a passage and listen to a lecture before writing a response, and an independent task, where you'll write an essay expressing your opinion on a specific topic.
This section evaluates your ability to write in an organized, clear, and grammatically correct manner, as well as your ability to present and support an argument or summarize information from provided materials.
